Island City
In the mid-90s, Island City was a movie (pilot for a tv series that never happened) that we (Ronda, Angela, Diana, and I) saw and liked for its characters and the rather interesting future scenarios and interactions. What started several years of deep plotting was a point when Ronda and Angela had proclaimed their liking for the character Michael Mendi and I turned and said, "You can have Mendi – I’ll take 23!" Being overly hyper that weekend, we pounced on the idea, and shortly had our own characters invented to go into the story and eventually end up with our men. J
{coughs} Being overly detailed and having a heck of a regular letter correspondence (I lived in a different area than the other three and Ronda and I traded epic letters on a regular basis – this was before email!), we got not only into ‘stories’ but in order to make our stories make sense, we delved deeply into the whole of the world of the movie and rearranged most of it. The poor writer/producer of that movie… at one point we had a five page list of "questions" we wanted to ask him. ;-p We never sent it and instead invented our own reasons, and if we decided it had no reason, we discarded it.
For several years we worked together on the world, characters, and plots. And then we all went our separate ways for different reasons and the whole thing sortof stopped. Leaving a lot of the stories completely "unfinished."
However, because it was a big chunk of our development (and because Ronda keeps talking about it ;-p), people keep asking about the Island City stories and stuff. Ronda’s already put some up on her site, so I’ll put the ones I’ve got up too. Ronda's stories need translating from the system they were stored on. When she's got that done, hopefully she'll share. ;-) I’ve also got a lot of Ronda’s drawings from that period, so I’ll have to scan them at some point as well.
